Book 1, Chapter 7, Commander of the Knights of Solamnia Summary

Chapter 7 opens with Laurana, the historian Astinus and the lord reading a scroll sent from Lord Gunthar. It is a reply to a message that Laurana had sent him a few days before. She had requested to know who was in charge of the armies since all of their older knights have perished. He replies that she is the new general of the army. This is unheard of, since women do not have roles in the military, generally. Laurana is the only woman warrior and most of the men have thought that she is just playing army. Now, she is their general because she is the most experienced soldier still alive.
