The Everman is the prologue to Dragons of Spring Dawning. It focuses on Berem and his sister, Krynn.

Berem is dreaming and in his dream, it has been a long winter and they are having trouble hunting for food. Krynn leads her brother down what she thinks is a animal path and it turns out to be a very old human-made path.

The forest has been burned. Berem follows his sister and soon they come upon the site where the forest fire may have started. They find the ruins of an old building. One of the columns is still standing and it is encrusted with valuable jewels.
