Book 2 Dragonflight - Chapter 1 Summary

Much to Lessa's chagrin, she sits beneath the tutelage of R'gul and S'lel. Her role as Weyrwoman isn't living up to what F'lar led her to expect. She dares to ask why the Queen has wings if she isn't meant to fly. R'gul doesn't really address her question, but only repeats that Queens don't fly. R'gul's colleague, S'lel, adds that they do fly to mate. The two men argue. Bickering over minute details is the norm. Lessa often wakes Ramoth with her powers to end her sessions. Other times she wakes R'gul's dragon, Hath. At this point, no one knows she can communicate with all the dragons.

Part of Lessa's schooling requires her to write out every Teaching Ballad, Disaster Saga and the Laws. Each has to be letter perfect. However, as she writes them, she wonders...
