Summary

Ana continues to make and sell food. One day, Ana and César learn that there is going to be a large event called the World’s Fair hosted in the city. César encourages Ana to sell food at the Fair. The sights and sounds of the fair are somewhat overstimulating for Ana, but she finds the experience to be generally interesting, and she makes a considerable amount of money by selling food. César accompanies her, and when thy finally return home, Ana feels fairly excited and fulfilled. Ana continues to attend English classes at the church over the following weeks. Juan calls Ana on the phone and says that he will soon return to New York, as the political situation in the Dominican Republic appears to be stabilizing. The narration briefly shifts focus to Ana’s family, specifically her older brother...
