Chapter V, pgs. 414-503 Summary

Kidd returns to the scorpion's house with them. Denny returns and tells Kidd of his experiences with Lanya. Nightmare and the others tell how they watched the fire in the city as they eat. Kidd wants Denny to show him where Lanya lives but he won't. Kidd goes to the bar looking for Lanya.

AT the bar, people are talking about what they saw in the sky. None of them knows what it was. They are talking with Captain Kamp who used to be with the space program. Kidd tells them how the light awakened him. He mentions the possibility of radiation. They all agree that something happened that day.

Kidd leaves the bar with Tak. They go to a deserted bookstore but all the shelves are bare except for the copies of Black Orchid that have...
