Summary

In Chapter 1, David Birkmann recalls the events that caused him to accidentally murder Gina Hemming, the organizer of a planned high school reunion and a woman he calls his “first and truest love” (4). David had gone to Gina’s house to meet with her and other member of his high school class to start the planning of his class’s twenty-fifth high school reunion. Gina, who had been voted Girl Most Likely to Succeed, had moved away from Trippton, Minnesota, only to return and run the family’s bank upon the death her father. She is also getting a divorce. David, who is divorced, now believes that he has a chance with her, even though he never has before. One of his nicknames is Bug Boy and his high school class referred to him as the Funniest Boy.
