Manfred Bernardo

Manfred, a psychic who lives in Midnight, is one of the main characters in the narrative. The situation he finds himself in when one of his clients dies during her session with him and her son accuses him of stealing her jewelry drives most of the narrative as it brings unwanted attention to Midnight. The Rev gets Olivia to help Manfred because he does not want attention bought to Diederik and the members of the community also think that Manfred is a nice guy and innocent even though he does the job of a charlatan.

Manfred’s identity with his job is complex as he does have psychic abilities as shown by the fact that he is able to connect with Rachel's husband and he knows that Olivia is in trouble when he touches the paper that has her phone number on it. He also shows that...
