Chapter 3 Summary

Suze thinks about how she knew when she was in love with Jesse, which is the 150-year-old ghost that lives in her bedroom. It was when she was in the hospital recovering from a beating some other ghosts gave her. Jesse touched and her cheek and she swooned.

Dinner at the Ackerman house is fast food. As Suze tries to eat it, she asks her stepbrother and stepfather what was in the metal box they found when digging the hole for the new hot tub. They told her it's full of love letters from the 1850s when the house was first built. Suze goes up to her mom and Andy's room after dinner to see the letters. As she starts to read them, she realizes they are love letters to Jesse from another woman.
