Scotch Heaven, Pages 88 Through 140 Summary

The area where Angus and Rob choose to settle is populated by a number of Scottish settlers and is soon called Scotch Heaven, which is the title of that chapter. Rob and Angus build a cabin first on Rob's homestead claim, planning to spend their first winter there and to build Angus's cabin the following spring. They decide which of the two houses to build first by betting which of two magpies, perched on a limb, will fly first. Rob's land is higher than Angus's choice, Angus having selected land nearer the creek. Rob making plans to build a reservoir. The two quickly discover that sheep are difficult animals to predict and are constantly leaving their work on Rob's cabin to find out where the sheep have gotten off to.
