August 3, 1959. Daisy and her father arrive in Tupelo just in time to register for the contest. Daisy has had to take a hotel room across town because of the crowd. Daisy's father gives her the name of a cab driver who will be willing to drive her around as long as she is in Tupelo. August 4, 1959. The cab driver, Mr. Smith, is quiet but he is always there when she needs him. Daisy meets a couple of the older girls in the contest who are there for their final year. They spend the night drinking in the older girls' room. August 5, 1959. Daisy does her first sketch for the talent contest. August 6, 1959.
