After countless hours of thinking it over, the Nurse finally decides on a strategy to undermine what increasingly appears to be McMurphy's unchallenged authority over the ward. She begins by spreading a rumor about how much money each man has spent over the months that McMurphy has been with them. Each man has spent quite a bit, except one. McMurphy, through his gambling and wheeling and dealing, has made quite a bit of money since his arrival. She allows the rumor to fester for a while, then brings it up indirectly during one group meeting when McMurphy is not present. She asks them to examine McMurphy's motives for being the way he is, and especially what his motives are for risking an extended stay at the hospital to win privileges for the men......
