Part 3 Summary

After the incident with the glass, Nurse Ratched backs off, giving McMurphy almost free reign of the ward. She is biding her time, knowing that despite appearances, she still has the upper hand. McMurphy asks for a day pass to go and visit "a twitch I know from Portland named Candy Starr." The pass is vetoed during a group meeting, and McMurphy once again calmly smashes his fist through the newly repaired glass around the nurse's station. "When did they sneak that danged glass in there? Why, that thing is a menace!" he exclaims, bleeding profusely all over the nurse's desk.

McMurphy also manages to procure a basketball from the doctor, and they begin to practice basketball in the ward. The men begin to catch on to his rebelliousness. Harding begins to flirt with.....
