Chapter 5 Summary

Scarpetta goes into work the next morning and discovers most of her employees are forced to stay home due to a large snowfall the night before. Susan is at work, however, having gotten a ride from Ben Stevens. Scarpetta and Susan immediately begin working on Jennifer Deighton's autopsy. When Susan learns that Jennifer gave horoscope readings for a living, she becomes upset. Susan says a self-proclaimed witch cursed her sister just weeks before her sister died in a car accident. Susan does not want to work on the case, so Scarpetta sends her to her office to rest. During the autopsy, Scarpetta discovers that Jennifer was dead when she was placed inside her car, most likely strangled.
