Summary

In Chapter 16, Kuro doesn't immediately recognize Tsukuru. He recognizes her but notes that she has changed over the 16 years. She says he looks “grown up,” and is obviously surprised to see him. She is not excited by his presence. Edvard says he's going to take the girls to town to pick up a few groceries and they leave. When they're gone, Kuro asks why Tsukuru is there. He says he came to Finland expressly to see her. Tsukuru says he feared she might refuse to see him if he told her he was coming. She assures him they are friends but he says he isn't certain they are still friends.
