Summary

In Chapter 37, the morning after Trejo’s death, Tracy talked to Leah at the police station. Leah told Tracy that she had not shot Trejo, but knew that would not be enough to convince Tracy that she was innocent. Tracy felt as if she were in a chess match as she and Leah discussed the case. Leah had excelled at the game. Leah said she had been offered a plea deal in which she would be honorably discharged and get to keep her pay but she did like the idea of pleading guilty to a crime she had not committed.

Leah told Tracy that the real question was not who took the tape but why it had been taken. She added that Trejo never admitted to her that he had been in Seattle, even after she showed him the tape. She believed that...
