Alexander Cold

Alex is fifteen when his mother contracts a serious illness. Alex isn't certain that his mother is going to live. One day Alex comes home unexpectedly to find his father shaving his mother's head. Alex goes crazy, fighting with his father and then destroying everything in his room. When he is past the anger and grief, he talks with his father and learns that his mother is going to Texas for treatment. Alex's sisters are going to stay with their mother's mother, Clara, but Alex is going to spend a few weeks with his father's mother, Kate. Alex protests, saying that at fifteen he's old enough to be consulted about the decision. In truth, Alex is very immature and self-centered.
