Eve is at a restaurant when she sees Benny looking through the door. She tells everyone good bye. Benny tells her the whole story. Jack says he loves her, but the marriage has to take place. The announcement will be in the newspaper Saturday. Eve takes Benny to a taxi. She tells the driver to go to Dun Laoghaire. Eve tells Benny to rest, and they can talk at home. When they get there, Kit is out shopping for a trip to Kerry with Kevin and his father. The girls are the only ones in the kitchen. Eve prepares food and takes out a bottle of sherry, but Benny refuses a drink. Eve says it will help. Eve tells Benny to begin the story at the canal. Benny notes the dark look on.....
