Chapter 12 Summary

Heather tells Eve that Simon will be joining them for their outing. Heather did not say anything before because she feared Eve would not come. She insists that Eve come along. Simon arrives in the car and offers to drive. He realizes that he is second to Eve but remains cheerful. When Heather inquires about their grandfather, Simon does not want to talk about him. Heather points out that he is Eve's grandfather, too. While Simon agrees, he says no more. Eve feels like Simon wants something, and then Simon asks about Nan, fulfilling Eve's intuition. Eve offers him very little information.

At Kit's, a stranger rings the doorbell. After Kevin, a student, says that Kit is out, the man says he will wait. He explains that he is an old friend named Hegarty......
