Circle of Friends was developed into a 1995 motion picture by Pat O'Connor, shot on location in the tiny village of Inistioge, County Kilkenny. The film starred newcomer Minnie Driver and Christ O'Donnell, as Jack. The movie and the novel differ in many ways, especially considering the necessary condensation of the novel. Initially, the movie differs in how the characters meet. In addition, the movie concentrates, in a much more explicit manner than the book, on the sexual concerns and actions of the characters.
