Summary

In Chapter 1, Corinna arranged a special lunch for Kitty to make up for what happened at Stratosphere. Ada and Fiona, Eddie’s wife, would be joining them. Corinna asked if Kitty had been practicing her apology and if she had it memorized. Corinna thought if Kitty could make an impression on Ada, she had a chance of being accepted back into society.

During lunch, Kitty performed her apology, telling Ada that she had gotten swept up in emotion because her grandmother who had raised her in a tiny village in China had died of tuberculosis. Kitty had dropped out of school to nurse her grandmother. She explained that was why she was so moved by Sir Francis Poon’s work to combat the disease in Africa.
