Summary

In Chapter 5, Astrid called Charlie to apologize for upsetting Isabel. He convinced her there was a misunderstanding and everything was fine. After he ended the phone call Charlie was physically sick because of the lies he had told Astrid.

Back in his office, Charlie wrote an email to Astrid telling her that everything with Isabel was not as good as he had made it seem. He and Isabel were living apart but were trying to convey the image that they were still happily married. He adds that Isabel had been pregnant with another man’s baby when they got married. She had a habit of disappearing for days at time without telling anyone where she was. Charlie believed Isabel had a mental illness known as bipolar disorder, but her parents would not allow Charlie to take her to a doctor for diagnosis...
