Summary

On the Gilgamesh, Holsten is taken to Guyen who is kept alive by the upload and various tubes, as he can no longer breathe for himself. Guyen angrily accuses Holsten of consorting with Lain and laments that he could not use the lives of key crew in his mission. Guyen explains his people have gone over the entire ship in preparation for their war with Kern as the green planet is their only home. Guyen refuses to let the generations of dead go to waste and knows he cannot return to cryo sleep without dying himself. Holsten says Lain believes his upload will crash the Gilgamesh, but Guyen says it is their only chance. He tells Holsten to write his story.
