Pages 105-148 Summary

Lucilla is brought into the Grand Matre's presence suffering both hunger and melange withdrawal. She wants to either kill herself or provoke the Grand Matre into doing so, but the voices in her head admonish her saying the Sisterhood needs her knowledge about strategy. Lucilla uses a combination of obscenity and charm with the Grand Matre and is rewarded with food and melange. Grand Matre admits that Bene Gesserit science interests her. Lucilla continues to attempt to provoke the Grand Matre, who flares orange briefly, but controls herself. Grand Matre asks about Leto II's prescience.
