The next day, Louise shouts Atie's name from the road. Louise plays with Brigitte and then Atie and Louise leave. Sophie takes a picture of her grandmother. Ifé objects mildly, remarking that the camera might trap her soul. Sophie explains that she wants Brigitte to know how much each of the women in her family is in her. After Ifé goes back inside, Sophie pulls out her wallet and looks at the pictures in it. She thinks about how she almost wouldn't let Joseph take pictures of her after Brigitte was born, because she was even more ashamed of her body than usual, both from the Caesarian section stitches and the flab all over her.
