Summary

Chapter 10

When Chapter 10 opens, five days have passed with no sign of Jake and Anna. Meg annoys Em with her constant chatter, but when she reveals that her mother and aunt were recently killed by the others, Em makes a silent vow to never leave her. Meg thinks Leo is trying to point them toward Jake and Anna, so they go in search but are captured by a man with a gun, who takes them to a camp filled with people. They are not the others, and they welcome Meg and Em, giving them food and clean clothes. A very kind woman named Mary takes Em to a lake, where she feels free for the first time as she swims in the clear, cold water. One of the young men in the camp turns out to be Jake and Anna’s brother Will...
