Phaze

Phaze serves as the setting for half of this novel. It is the frame alternate Proton and contains magic and mythological creatures such as unicorns, vampires and werewolves. Here, Stile is the Blue Adept, a powerful magician who summons his magic through music and lyrics.

Proton

Proton is the setting for half of the novel and is the alternate frame to Phaze, which contains advanced scientific knowledge and is filled with robots. In Proton, Stile is a serf competing in the Tourney to acquire the status of Citizen.

Blue Demesnes

The Blue Demesnes is Stile's castle-like home in Phaze.

Red Demesnes

The Red Demesnes is the Red Adept's home in Phaze, and it is here that Stile first confronts her about killing the original Blue Adept and Hulk.

Tourney

In Proton, Stile competes in the Tourney, a competition for which the ultimate prize is Citizenship.
