Post-Apocalyptic Society

In this novel, something dramatic but unnamed happened to the modern world. Natural resources disappeared in what appears to have been an energy crisis of sorts. This crisis has led to the deaths of millions because of a lack of water and other resources. One group found a way to grow mycoprotein, a wheat that thrives even in the worst conditions, and this led to their survival. They built a wall around their city and turned away people who wanted to come and live with them. Instead, they allowed stragglers to build a city outside their walls and even provided them with rations of food and water.

The devastation of the world on such a large scale has left many in need of someone to follow, of rules to follow. For this reason, the people outside the Enclave will do just about anything to please the Enclave...
