Valerian

Valerian is an agent of the Spacio-Temporal Agency, and is one of the heroes of Birds of the Master. He is a strong man, depicted as a handsome hero. Valerian has some faults, but is ultimately a positive character. As the novel opens, Valerian has crashed their spaceship. He does not know what happened to cause him to crash and it is ultimately proven that the Master was responsible. But Laureline is angry, knowing that he sometimes makes mistakes that put them in dangerous situations.

Valerian wants to do what is right, but sometimes he has trouble finding that balance. For example, Laureline wants to return to their spaceship, make the repairs, and leave the planet. Valerian feels that they need to try to rescue the young alien named Sul. He does not have to make the decision because Laureline comes around to accept that they should try...
