Summary

Laureline and Valerian watch as the people stare, fascinated that someone got attacked by the Birds. Valerian says it seems they are watching something with entertainment value. As the Birds leave, Sul continues to say he is “not afraid” (21). The other man who was attacked continues to walk around, saying he is a bird. An alien who is obviously some sort of leader announces that the Master has eaten his fill and the workers can now have what is left. Some children walk into the crowd with the leftovers and almost everyone digs in, eating ravenously. Sul continues to vow to kill the Master as it begins to rain.
