Summary

In Chapter 16, Pino and General Leyers go to meet with Mussolini, where Pino must translate that Mussolini wishes for more control of the country and General Leyers wishes for an end to the strikes that are disrupting progress. When back in Milan Pino is given time to catch up with Carletto, then a cyclist drops a bomb which explodes killing Nazi soldiers and also Mr. Beltramini. Pino later tells his uncle that he wants to tell Carletto the truth, but his uncle says that it is not the right time.

In Chapter 17, Pino and General Leyers go to meet with Cardinal Schuster where General Leyers insists that the bombing perpetrator must turn themselves in or the Nazis will punish citizens, which is out of his control.
