Chapter 22 Summary

The doctor insists that Bone stay in the hospital overnight, so Raylene stays with her. They can't give Bone anything for the pain until they know more about her injuries. Raylene takes her home the next day. Raylene tells Bone that it's hard for a woman to choose between her lover and her baby. She exclaims over the terrible things people do to those they love. Bone is still raging inside and tells herself that she is a horrible person. Raylene tries to tell her that her Mama loves her and that it will be better in time, but Bone glares at her. Bone says she hates Mama, but Raylene says she'll forgive Mama in time.

Bone spends most of her time on the porch not talking to anyone. Raylene and Earle leave her.....
