Chapter 21 Summary

At the hospital, Mama rushes Bone up to the door where a nurse takes her. When Bone turns to look at Mama, she's gone. Mama's betrayal has now crossed the line of no return for Bone. The doctor puts Bone's shoulder back in the socket and tends to her other injuries. Bone doesn't remember the ride to the hospital and doesn't remember if Mama said anything to her or the nurse. She wonders where Mama went and what happened to Glen. When the Deputy asks Bone who did this to her, she refuses to answer, even though part of her wants to tell him. She knows that he doesn't really care about her, and she doesn't care about herself anymore. She asks for Mama, who still isn't there, but she is told that.....
