Chapter 20 Summary

Bone stays at Alma's and spends a time at Raylene's as well. Bone hears from Reese that Mama and Glen are talking again. It's springtime and peaceful, until one afternoon Glen shows up while Alma is out in the garden. He asks if Mama is there, and Bone says no. He makes conversation with her, and Bone wonders if Alma heard him drive up. She doesn't know what to do.

Glen tells Bone that Mama loves her more than he can understand and that Bone must tell Mama that she wants them all to live together again. Mama doesn't want to go back without her. Bone whispers no and says that she won't go back and live with him. She repeatedly says no, and as the tension rises, Bone tries to back-peddle and say.....
