Chapter 17 Summary

Bone remembers Aunt Ruth and regrets that she did not tell Ruth about Daddy Glen touching her. Mama's answer has been to keep Bone out of the house as much as possible, but nothing has changed. As Bone remembers Ruth, Glen calls out to her, but Bone doesn't hear him. He doesn't believe her when she says she didn't hear him, so she yells back at him that she didn't. He then drags her into the bathroom. Mama screams in the background for him to stop. He slams the door closed and tells Bone not to say a word, and she tells herself that she won't. He pins her between himself and the sink and whips her with his belt. Bone keeps telling herself that she won't scream, and she doesn't. She can.....
