Chapter 14 Summary

As Bone tries to cope with Shannon's death, she also tries to make up with Reese, but she is unsuccessful. Aunt Ruth is getting sicker. Mama is mad at Bone. Bone is sent home from school for wearing jeans because she's tired of wearing the same old clothes day after day. Overall, everything in her life feels uncertain. Bone also wonders what other people see when they look at her. Her cheeks are high and strong. She's muscular and doesn't have breasts. Mostly, she wants to be pretty. She also notes that her bones ache all the time, which Aunt Raylene says are growing pains.

During this time, Glen is worried about money and does not like working for his father. Mama warns Bone to be careful around him. Bone continues to look at.....
