Chapter 12 Summary

By this time, Bone and Reese, who used to be allies, now compete over everything, and this is the worst time for them to be fighting. Daddy Glen is having problems again, and Mama says he is having problems with his father. Aunt Ruth is very ill, and Aunt Alma and Uncle Wade are having problems. Mama tells Bone to go to Aunt Raylene's. Uncle Earle tells Bone that Raylene was somewhat wild when she was younger and passed herself off as a man to work for the carnival. She later returned and has lived alone ever since. Bone helps around the house, and she helps pull garbage from the river. Some of it they salvage and sell on the side of the road on weekends.
