Chapter 11 Summary

The chapter opens with an introduction to Shannon Pearl, an odd-looking girl who Bone befriends. All the other kids in school make fun of Shannon. Bone alternates between awe and disgust of Shannon. Her reaching out to Shannon is not out of Christian charity, but out of a morbid fascination. Bone wants Shannon to be beautiful on the inside, but that isn't the case. Shannon tells gruesome stories, but Bone keeps going to her house. Shannon's parents are not rich, and sometimes they seek donations to pay for Shannon's medical expenses. Bone can't understand this, but she is always polite around them. Further, because the Pearls are involved in a number of businesses, Bone gets to meet a number of musicians. Mr. Pearl books the musicians for performances. Bone gets to go on.....
