The chapter opens with Aunt Alma trying to explain to Bone about loving a man who is outside the family. She explains that love often has a lot to do with how someone looks and that Glen is a good-looking man. Bone says Mama stares out into nowhere after Glen leaves the house. At one point, Mama asks Bone if she and Reese like Glen, and Bone says yes. When the girls get tired, Glen carries them out to the car and tucks them into a bed of blankets. Bone wants to wait for Mama, but Mama seems to like having Glen take care of the girls.
Mama dates Glen for two years. Everyone tells Bone it has taken Mama a long time to trust a man after Lyle's death. Bone notes that Glen.....
