Chapter 8, White Fury Summary

Rudi emerges above the tree line in the darkness. As the dawn slowly breaks, he sees a plume of smoke ahead. He carefully traverses the crevasses on the Blue Glacier. Above, the sunlight strikes the top of the Citadel. He approaches the cabin and walks in, seeing an unfamiliar man who he realizes must be Emil Saxo. The huge man confirms this as Captain Winter walks in the door. He is very surprised to see Rudi and makes him breakfast. Rudi announces that he wants to join the expedition. Saxo laughs, but Winter just smiles. He explains to Saxo how Rudi saved his life on the glacier. Rudi lies, though, when Captain Winter asks if he has permission to join them. He says that his mother gave him permission to climb,.....
