Chapter 7, A Prisoner Escapes Summary

Franz Lerner is talking to his sister, Frau Matt, in her parlor. He explains how Captain Winter returned and offered him twice his normal fee to guide him on a Citadel climb. Franz was flattered but refused. He offered to climb any other peak for half his usual fee. He shakes his head. Franz explains that he thinks the captain is possessed by the mountain.
