In this work, Watkins continues her story of Yoko, Ko, and Hideyo as they build a new life in Kyoto. Year of Impossible Goodbyes, by Sook Choi (Econo-clad Books, 1999) also recounts a young girl's harrowing escape from Korea and details the horrifying experiences she had along the way.
