Dagny's doorbell rings at 10:00 a.m., after she has worked until 4:00 a.m. James is there to tell her that Hank Rearden is gone. Dagny laughs. James also says that Hank took some clothing and what he had in his apartment safe. This is a national catastrophe and a fatal blow to the country's morale and economy.
