Part 3, Chapter 6 "The Concerto of Deliverance" Summary
On October 20th, Rearden Steel's union demands wage increases from the Unification Board. Hank reads this in the paper and cannot tell if his own workers are making the demand. When the Board denies it, the newspapers campaign against Rearden Steel, describing the workers' hardships that could lead to violence. Workers begin smashing the furnaces. All of Hank's property and bank accounts are seized to pay unowed back income taxes. Washington says it will take a few days to de-process the seizure order. Tinky Holloway summons Hank to a meeting in New York on November 4th at 7:00 p.m. That morning, Hank's mother calls him at dawn. She must speak to him in person today. He drives to his former home at 4:00 p.m. to meet with his mother, Philip and Lillian. They demand mercy. What is he going to do about their allowance checks that could not come because...
