Part 1, Chapter 4 "The Immovable Movers" Summary
Dagny returns from a New Jersey plant that cannot make the diesel engines she has ordered. Eddie is waiting for Dagny so that he can tell her that McNamara, contractor for their Colorado line, has closed his business and left. She leaves her office late and looks at the empty streets. She has always been the motive power for her own happiness. Now she wants someone else to play that role. She buys a newspaper and goes to her apartment, two rooms on the top of a skyscraper. She listens to Halley's Fourth Concerto, a song of rebellion and a desperate quest. His music overflows with violent color with a heroic quality. An opera by Halley is based on the story of Phaethon, Helios' young son. The first production of it closes after one night.
