A few days after Kari tells Julia about Mary Jo, Slip learns she has Hodgekin's disease. Slip is treated with chemotherapy and it seems the cancer has gone into remission. However, things are not going smoothly for Kari. Julia has refused to speak to her for more than a year until one night she calls out of the blue and apologizes. Julia is engaged and has decided she needs her mother in her life. Flannery, Slip's daughter, has written a novel she is attempting to have published. Slip and her husband read the novel together and discover it to be incredible. Shortly after it finds a publisher, Slip gives the Angry Housewives a copy.
