Chapters 1-3 Summary

Harry Bosch is anxiously waiting for his wife to come home when he receives a phone call from Deputy Chief Irvin Irving. Harry and his team are needed at a murder scene downtown. Harry quickly calls his two partners and meets them at the police station where they pick up slickbacks before going on to the crime scene. The crime scene is swarming with cops, mostly Robbery Homicide detectives who would normally pick up the case due to a shortage of detectives in the precinct that handles the Bunker Hill area. Harry also sees several IAD, Internal Affairs Division, detectives as well. The overwhelming number of detectives standing around doing nothing makes Harry wonder what is going on. None of this seems normal. Harry seeks out Irving and asks what is going on. Irving tells Harry that he is handing the investigation...
