Summary

In Chapter 2, Zoe’s father, Dr. Leston, overwhelms Ethan with his presence and his money. He accuses Ethan of being one of the people who helped to wreck the economy because he works for a bank. Ethan likes to think his job actually helped to ensure some liquidity during that time but does not mention this to Dr. Leston. Ethan senses Dr. Leston does not like him so he tells the man that Zoe is leaving him to work in Washington, knowledge that he believes will please the man. He asks since Dr. Leston knows his relationship with Zoe is ending, why Dr. Leston is so determined to belittle him. Dr. Leston laughs and tells Ethan it is because he knows that Ethan has been sleeping with Zoe.

Their conversation is interrupted when Elizabeth Leston enters the room. Ethan notices the diamond necklace...
