Summary

In Chapter 22, narrated by Lyla, Lyla woke to find her father scrubbing the spray-painted word “slut” (270) off their front porch. At school, Tom pulled up in a parking spot so he could go in and talk to Walter even though Lyla begged him not to.

In Chapter 23, narrated by Tom, as Tom talked to Walter Finch interrupted the meeting to say that he thought Polly was responsible for the vandalism because she had called Lyla a slut at his house the day before. Tom asked if perhaps Finch thought he had any part in what happened because of the photograph but Finch only gave him a blank stare. When Walter clarified what Tom was asking, Finch said it was Polly who took the picture and sent it to his friends.
