Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Dar es Salaam is the city in Tanzania where Nadia was born. Though she does not remember much about the city, she does recall her parents' connection to the place. Kumasi, Ghana

Kumasi is the capital city of the Ashanti region in Ghana. When Nadia was seven years old, her father took her and Yasmeen to Kumasi. While visiting his family, he was eager to show his daughters the stool house, the place where the stools of the Oyoko clan's royalty were kept. During the tour, Nadia grew bored and irritable. She was disinterested in her family's past. Years later, as Nadia reflects on this memory, she rediscovers the importance of the clan's history.
