Chapters 39 and 40 Summary

Ridgeway tells Maybe that Chessy joined AA. He says one if her student accused Jake of trying to rape her do Chessy threw him out and hit the bottle. Ridgeway is Chessy's sponsor.

Ted, Maybe and Hollywood are at a cafe celebrating his film submission. Maybe can't stop thinking about Jake and asks Hollywood to take her home. On the way home, he pulls off the road and says he needs to tell Maybe something. She suspects he's going to tell her he likes her but she says she values their friendship and that it's OK.

Chapters 39 and 40 Analysis

Chessy realizes she was wrong about Jake. She's getting help for her drinking but Chessy doesn't know how to make it right with Maybe. Maybe thinks Hollywood is confessing his feelings for her but it seems as if he's talking about something...
